It’s been a while since I’ve written anything for popho. It seems like there will be times where I’ll have a new post every day… and then there are other times where I’ll go weeks without an update. I don’t know why… it’s not like it takes any talent or skill to do music video reviews…

Today’s video review is of tomboy’s Superstar. (I snagged this video off of controlle.net… quite possibly the best website for Japanese music and music videos.) I was going to read up on them before I started the review… but it’s usually more fun when I just dive in head first and just bullshit along the way…

0:09 - Things look promising already. There’s a ton of scantily clad Asian women… uh… writhing.

0:19 - I’m going out on a limb here, but I think this is “tomboy.” Not very tomboyish if you ask me.

I wonder if there’s a wikipedia article on them…

Sonim is back making music again in a new group with model/actress/singer Akane Osawa. I went thru a heavy Sonim binge during her “Curry Rice no Onna” days, but my interest gradually waned with each new single release. It perked up again after seeing her in the “Back Dancers!” movie. She was built like Wonder Woman in that flick… As for this tomboy group, I’m just happy to see Sonim again. She could be teamed up with the Cookie Monster for all I care, but Akane is pretty cute and doesn’t sing too bad. Bring on the next single!

0:41 - It’s not even been a minute, but I have decided that this video is the most awesome thing ever. The only way that it could possibly let me down is if someone embedded 2girls1cup in the middle of it. Hopefully controlle isn’t that cruel.

1:01 - In addition to the girls being dressed all skanky in a bar, they also don school girl outfits and are hanging out in a classroom.

1:15 - These girls can really dance! After watching a bunch of old FinkL videos, it’s refreshing to see pop stars with coordination. And tits.

2:00 - Breakdown portion of the song. One thing that I’ve noticed so far is that there are no dudes in this video. Not even a single back-up dancer or anything.

2:03 - The girls sure do wink a lot. Not that I mind or anything. In fact, I think it’s kind of hot… but the frequency with which they do it might lead some to believe they have a nervous twitch or something.

Just sayin’.

2:06 - Whole lotta spanking going on. If there’s one thing that Asian pop videos lack, it’s ass spanking. The video for Superstar more than makes up for the lack of ass spanking by having all the girls line up and spank each other. Like a big long conga line of ass spanking.

2:11 - Looks like they’re in a karaoke bar now, which is pretty awesome because I thought they’d just shoot the video in two places.

Maybe something just fell into that girl’s eye. Or… you know… maybe she has that twitch I was talking about earlier.

Verdict: You guys can probably already tell, but I like this video. The girls were hot, the dance numbers incredible and that one girl with the winking problem makes me think her mom dropped her on the head one too many times when she was a baby. As an added bonus, I actually kind of like the song too.
