OMG! OMG! OMG! The first screenshot from Street Fighter IV is out and it makes me giddy like a little schoolgirl! While it’s still way too early to tell if SFIV is going to be awesome or not, I’m just really glad to see a screenshot of the game. A part of me is sad Street Fighter IV isn’t going to use HD sprites… but I realize that kind of game just wouldn’t survive in today’s market. From 1up:

Though the screenshot doesn’t answer this question outright, we can confirm that the game’s graphics are polygonal but the gameplay is strictly 2D. There will be new moves, locations, and gameplay features, while the standard six button control scheme remains. Ryu and Ken return along with Chun-Li and Dhalsim, but beyond that the character roster is a mystery.

I’m glad the game remains 2D… but just how 2D? I mean, aren’t most fighters really 2D with the z-axis only coming into play when you sidestep? Also, I thought having Dhalsim as definitely returning is a pretty solid, if not kind of weird, choice. Ryu, Ken and Chun Li are all pretty obvious choices to have in IV, but Dhalsim? I can’t wait to hear “Yoga fire, yoga fire, yoga fire, yoga fire…”

Also, it’s good to see that Ryu is just as excited as I am for the first screenshot.

A lot more details are coming out in the next EGM and I am going to try to get my hands on a copy when I can. I can’t even remember the last time I actually had a print copy of EGM, but I’d be damned if I wouldn’t get this one.
