SM Town: Angel Eyes

SM Town: Angel Eyes Jin Ger Bells, Jin Ger Bells, Jin Ger Ar Da Way!

Hey guys. Since it’s that time of the year again, I thought I’d post a couple of my old review of the old Christmas videos that SM Town did back in the day. These were some of my favorite videos because they seemed so much fun. I don’t know if SM Town still makes these (are they even still around?), but if they don’t, they really should because they’re the best.

SM Town: Angel Eyes

I don’t know what part of the country you guys are from, but lately, it’s been hot as hell. It’s so hot, I go out at night and I got a tan. It’s so hot, I’m sitting around shirtless with ice cubes in my pocket. It’s so hot… well, you get the idea…

For some reason or another, the insanely hot summers in the South always makes me think of Christmas time, when the temperature is equally as high. (The weather is really fucked up where I live.) So today on konton, I’d thought I would review a Christmas music video. Not just any ordinary Christmas music video, but a kpop Christmas music video.

Every year, SM Town gathers most of their talent together to make one of these. For those of you that don’t know, SM Town is one of the largest record labels in Korea. They manage a wide variety of acts such as Boa, SES, Kang Ta, and some other guys I don’t know.

The weird thing about these videos is the fact that they are widely traded in the kpop community. It’s strange, I know, but when Christmas time draws near, everybody in the IRC kpop channels goes nuts with anticipation for what SM Town will do next. Like me, these IRCers have no lives.

As the video opens up, we are treated to a fabulous rendition of the Christmas classic, Jingle Bells… er… well it’s more like Jin Ger Bell since nobody can really pronounce jingle right. If they had continued this through the whole video, it would have been alright, but instead they bust into an original song that doesn’t really quite cut it.

Well on to the plot of the video I suppose. Some dude’s parents are going out of town and leaving the guy home alone. However, unlike Macaulay Culkin, he’s stoked at the idea of being left home alone on Christmas day and immediately starts calling all his friends over.

Oh, he also gets to teleconference with Boa. She makes me feel like a dirty old man.

Meanwhile, some escaped convicts are running in the woods, eating leaves and such. They find the house and decide to take all the presents and fill back the boxes with newspaper.

What a bunch of bastards. I mean, they should count their blessings for escaping the daily anal rapings, but instead, they decide to steal a bunch of lousy toys. But hey, what can I say? There’s one really cool snowman toy that dances, and I wouldn’t mind having it.

They then even have the nerve to go in and join the party. Of course, everybody is in the Christmas spirit, so they invite the two convicts to join in with their yuletide festivities. Nobody even thinks about anything until…

They start opening up the presents and find nothing in them. Look at the face Moon is making. Hilarious I tell you. He looks more feminine than most girls I know, and that my friends is not a good thing.

In Eugene’s box though, is a wanted poster for the two convicts, and everybody figures out what is up. A boogie/breakdown/chaotic hell scene, which involves Kang Ta dressed as Santa Claus and a police officer, breaks loose, and all the SM Town folk go crazy. It’s pure pandemonium.

By the way, here’s a pic of Kang Ta. I swear, I’ve gotten like a hundred messages and emails from young girls wanting me to do more on this guy. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t see what all the hub bub is about. Obviously Tony is way better looking.

Well, the convicts are arrested, and order is restored. But of course, sending these lifetime criminals back to slammer would be a big no-no on this holiest of holy occasions, so everybody decides to start dancing and singing jin ger bell again.

Overall, this wasn’t too shabby. I didn’t really like the song, but the video was mildly entertaining. I wished there was more SES in it, because I didn’t know half of the people in the video. Other than that, it really captures the spirit of Christmas as a materialistic holiday very well. And Shoo is very hot in it.

Score: 5.0
