Rome: S2E4

When did Rome become a snuff film? |
It’s 4:13 A.M. where I am right now. I have been tossing and turning in bed for the past hour, not being able to fall asleep. I was slowly starting to drift off… until I thought about this past week’s Rome episode. I knew immediately I had to get online and blog about it our else I wouldn’t be able to sleep for what little is left of the night.
Hey, some people like soft music, others warm milk. I prefer to write pointless posts that I know no one will read.

I assume that most people watched this episode on delay because of the Super Bowl. I know I did. In hindsight, I should have probably just stuck to Rome because the Super Bowl was God awful. Doo doo would be how I would describe both teams. I was really surprised to see Manning win Super Bowl MVP when it was obvioiusly Rex Grossman who helped the Colts cause more than anyone else. But anyways…
We continue right where we left off last episode. Atia’s fat slave is about to serve her some poison soup. The only problem is that the slave samples some of the soup and ends up dying from it before Atia could get a taste. Two reasons why this was good for Atia: 1) She didn’t die from eating poison soup. 2) Atia didn’t need that soup anyway. She’s ballooned recently and less soup isn’t going to hurt her any.
I got slightly nauseous from the bloody mouth, but that paled in comparison to the next scene.

This scene was extremely hard to watch. I was eating a tuna sandwich before it started but when I saw all of that blood, I had to put it away. Rome’s always been a gruesome show, but this torture scene was just over the top.

Oh snap! New Octavian! I normally dislike it when actors are changed midstream (Passions does this all the time. Wait, why the fuck am I talking about Passions in a Rome post…), but I like this guy. He acts like Max Pirkis… uh… acted, and his looks aren’t too far off. And besides, with all of the stuff that is supposed to be coming up, I think this guy could pull it off better than Pirkis.

Mark Antony appeared for 30 seconds and that was about it. Very disappointing, because he’s my favorite character on the show.
By the way, did you guys ever hear that rumor that James Purefoy, the guy who plays Mark Antony, was going to be the next Bond? I don’t know how old that rumor is, or if there’s any merit to it, but, no offense to Craig, Purefoy would have made an awesome fucking Bond.

Okay at this point I really did vomit. I could not watch the Servilia torture scene and had to stand up and walk away.

The Agrippa emo love crush on Octavia was advanced. I really don’t see why they’re wasting time on this considering that there are only a limited number of episodes left and so much material to work with. I would think that the snuff-esque nature of this episode would have driven away anyone who would be interested in seeing a cute flirty relationship blossom.

At the end of the episode, we have Vorenus being reunited with his family in a slave camp. It was a touching moment… but it was also sad to see the state his family was in. I expected Vorenus to go on more of a rampage and start killing slavemasters left and right… but I think that there was more than enough violence in the rest of the episode.
