Planet Hulk

I should have been reading this instead of Civil War. |

I really should have been on Planet Hulk last year instead of wasting my time with that Civil War nonsense. I just finished Hulk issue 105, and I am really pumped for World War Hulk… if it was half as good as Planet Hulk was, I can’t see it going wrong. For Planet Hulk’s wiki:
In the 2006 storyline “Planet Hulk” by Greg Pak, after the Hulk destroys much of Las Vegas, a secret group of superheroes called the Illuminati trap the Hulk and rocket him into space to live a peaceful existence on a planet uninhabited by intelligent life. After a trajectory malfunction, the Hulk travels through a wormhole and crashes on the violent planet Sakaar. Weakened by his journey through the wormhole, the Hulk is sold as a slave. In a gladiatorial arena, he makes a deadly enemy when he scars the emperor’s face. The Hulk overcomes great odds to become a gladiator, a rebel leader and eventually a king. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada announced in 2006 that beginning with May 2007 comics, the Hulk will be the focus of the Marvel crossover event World War Hulk.
The art and pacing were superb. While at some points I felt that the Hulk in this series somewhat deviated from the Hulk I know and love, overall I thought his character was developed well. But then again, what do I know: I stopped collecting comic books sometime during the mid-90s.
The Planet Hulk series was not text heavy and very action oriented. In some ways this is good, because who does like to see the Hulk smash the fuck out of everything. In others it was disappointing, because while the Hulk’s warbound teammates seemed very interesting, their characters weren’t fully fleshed out.
But yeah, I see serious problems for Earth’s heroes once the Earth gets back. I predict a lot of smashing and angry Hulking to go down.
