Leah Dizon: Softly
|
Does this mean that Leah won’t get half naked and pose in front of Honda Civics anymore? :( |
There’s something special about Leah Dizon. I remember when I first saw some pictures of her wearing that Fallout Boy shirt and the knee high socks I immediately thought, “Who the fuck is this? And why can’t I love her long time?” Immediately on konton there were huge threads posted about Ms. Dizon that contained thousands of pictures… so many that it attracted the attention of the company that owned the rights to those pictures and nearly shut down konton.
But I’m not mad Leah. I forgive you.
There were rumours of her going to Japan to shoot some photos. Well, more then rumors… I actually stalked her via myspace and saw that she was living in Japan and never thought that in a million years that she would become an Asian pop music star!!! It’s like fate I tell you! I mean, me, a cranky pervert who writes thousand word reviews about Asian music videos, and Leah, who just released her first video! If we’re not together by the end of the year something is seriously wrong. From wikipedia:
She received only moderate success including the cover features of various import car magazines. However, her modeling career in the States gained her much attention and a large fanbase overseas, predominently Asia. Following the advice of her fans, Leah sent a demo tape to a talent agency in Japan. In April of 2006, after being accepted, she immediantly moved to Tokyo. In October 2006 she released her first photobook titled, “Petit Amie.” In 2007, Leah will make her debut as a singer under the record label Victor Entertainment. Her debut CD single and DVD package, Softly (VIZL-216) will be released February 14, 2007. At the same time, she will also be releasing her second photobook titled Hello! Leah.

By the way, thanks to Miao Ying for bringing this to my attention. S/he’s always on top of things like this. I haven’t been so excited about seeing a Japanese video ever since I ordered Fartwoman 35. (Which was a big let down. Never spend more than $50 on an onara film…)
At any rate, the video is nothing to write home about, but… Leah… she’s just so pretty. They could have just made a slide show with music playing in the background and I would have watched it. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure that there are hundreds of such videos on the internet.
The video is just comprised of Leah sitting on a pier, walking along the beach, looking in the mirror… It kind of reminds me of one of those herpes commercials. You know, the kind where there’s a bunch of good looking people having the time of their lives. I kept on waiting at the end of the video to hear a voice over say “does not prevent the spread of herpes” or “ask your doctor if this is right for you.”
I was also surprised to hear Leah singing in Japanese since she’s not a native speaker. At least I don’t think she is. She’s part French and Chinese and Filipina and Las Vegasian. But then again, Ozzy Osbourne has released dozens of albums and he hasn’t been able to speak English since the late 70s. I can’t speak Japanese, so I can’t tell you how fluent she sounds, but it’s just soooo kawaaaaaaaiiiiiiii when she sings.
Overall, I wouldn’t say that I was impressed. I know it’s her first video and all, and being an untested star, her budget was probably super low. However I have a feeling that she’s going to be a superstar one day. How can she not be?! I mean, she went from wearing a bikini standing in front of a tricked out Honda Civic to having photo albums and a music video made in Japan. I expect her upcoming videos to be much much better.
Score: 3.5
