LA Boyz: Go Posse
|
I can remember the first time I heard about the LA Boyz. My friend had downloaded the video for Go Posse, but he was too embarassed to watch it. Something about him being Chinese or something… |
I’ve been trying to hunt down a copy of this video forever just so I could repost this review from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. I’m really sad that Go Posse never spread like I wanted it to the first time around, but maybe it’ll catch on this time…
L.A. Boyz - Go Posse

At any rate, a little background info on the LA Boyz if you guys don’t know anything about them. Basically there were these three Chinese guys in LA, hence the name LA Boyz, who decided to form their own rap group. They got beat up by the real rappers so bad, they moved to Taiwan. There, they became one of the popular and influentual rap groups on that side of the Pacific Ocean.
Before I begin to review, I gotta say in order to get the “full effect” of LA Boyz’ Go Posse, you will have to watch the video. There’s no bones about it. The combination of the visuals and the music will make it one of the most memorable videos that you will have ever seen… and that I promise. You have to see it at all costs. Now on to the review…
Well what can I say? This is a very basic video. Just the LA Boyz chilling out and breaking for their hoes. What else could they be doing? While I can’t say much about their rapping talents, I can say that they know how to dance… if you call this dancing:
Go posse! Go! Go!That’s right, they swing around on each other. Some of the other dance moves are just too crazy to describe. Some of the moves include the worm, the pop, the cabbage patch, the roger rabbit, the running man, etc. Basically all the obsolete dance moves.
Some might say that the video appears funny now b/c it was made in the early 90s. I would beg to differ. If I saw this in 1993, I would have known immediately that it would become a classic. That’s how “good” it was, much like when I saw Ice Ice Baby or Do Me.
The lyrics in this song aren’t all that good either. The song is sung with a combination of Chinese and English. Also, the LA Boyz manage to write some of the most ridiculous lyrics ever heard by man. “I’m silky smooth, like a ladies breast” and “just like He-man I have the power of Greyskull” are just a couple of the gems that you hear in this video.
I gotta give credit where credit is due though, b/c the LA Boyz are quite possibly the forefathers of all Asian rap. They weren’t afraid to pioneer into uncharted waters and managed to become successful b/c of it. But one can’t help but say, damn this video sucks ass.
