This article is 6 years old and proves that my writing skills have not improved one bit. But it does answer the age old question of whether Squall is gay or not.

Nobody cares, but tomorrow is the 6th anniversary of kontona.com, the predecessor to this site and now a great forum. I believe that this was one of the first articles I ever wrote for kontona. (It was either this or a Shaq Fu review.) It’s 6 years old… and it shows that my writing skills have not improved any over the years. The article also shows how homophobic I was/am. : )

Is Squall Gay?

Squaresoft has never been afraid to reinvent their Final Fantasy series and innovate where others dare not go. Final Fantasy 8 features some of the biggest changes in the series yet. Square completely reinvented the magic system by using a “draw” system. CG and summons spells are some of the most elaborate scenes that the psx has ever managed to put forth. Even the way in which love takes precedence over the cliche save the universe story makes FF8 stand out. One often overlooked innovation is the fact that Square decided to make the first ever homosexual lead in a videogame…

Now before you exit this box, hear me out. I am not doing this article because I am a homophobe, or because I hate gay people. I am not just basing this on just a my suspicions, but I have infact managed to gather evidence that proves this.

First and foremost, even though she is just a video game character, Rinoa is hot. I’m not just talking like, she’s kinda cute, but the kinda hot that makes you want to sleep with your Playstation disks underneath your pillow… okay maybe not, but that’s beside the point… In any case, rinoa really digs the closet case Squall. She does all sorts of things that would make a normal man melt, but for some reason Squall spurns her for more than half the game. I wonder why…

Next is his choice of clothing. Leather jacket with FUR around the collar. That’s right. Who the hell has FUR trimmed collars besides old women and drag queens. No one I say. He also is wearing leather pants, or tight black jeans. I can’t really tell. Regardless, these are both common forms of dress among the gay community.

Also of important note is some of the dialog in game. How come nobody has noticed this stuff besides me??? I’ve noticed several instances where these scenes have occurred. Here’s screen capture with Squall trying to pick up Irvine, who’s sexuality is also in question…

You can’t make this stuff up I tell you. “How about letting me get some of that sweet ass”? Now I am no expert, but if you are saying this to a guy…

Lastly, there is an incredible amount of gay anime porn out there featuring Squall. Don’t believe me? Just go to yahoo.com or some other search engine and look for “Squall Yaoi”. Just casually searching for some pictures for this article I found thousands upon thousands of these sites.

Well I guess that sums it up. While some could make a case for Squall not being gay because he eventually hooks up with Rinoa, I don’t think that this is the case. Can anyone say cover girl? Everything just fits together perfect so to speak.
