I Love Gossip Girl
My latest addiction is the craptacular CW show Gossip Girl. There’s really nothing about it that makes it stand out, but I really really love it. Gossip Girl is basically the TV equivalent of dancing in your underwear while listening to ABBA or putting a few extra pumps of that artificial butter into your movie popcorn. You know it’s going straight to your thighs, but it’s soooooo good. It’s the ULTIMATE guilty pleasure show.

Man, that was probably most homosexual paragraph that I’ve ever written. I think I’ve just outed myself.
For the uninitiated, from wikipedia:
Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama based on the popular novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York’s Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, and other teenage issues.
I mean, how could a how about hot school girls, sex, drugs and the super elite not be good? Here are a few reasons why I really dig this show:

+ Like I said before, who isn’t interested in the fabulous lifestyles of the super wealthy?
+ Blair Waldorf is quickly becoming one of my top fictional character crushes. Sorry Taylor. There’s just something about stuck up snooty brunettes that I can’t get enough of. And she has a smile to die for.
+ Serena isn’t shabby either:

+ I love Josh Schwartz. I thought he had used up all of his magic on the OC, quite possibly the favorite show of all time, but he’s struck gold again with Gossip Girl. At least in my eyes. (Hey, I’ve already admitted that my tastes in television shows are… somewhat unique…)
+ Kristen Bell has a pretty voice.
+ The guy who plays Chuck Bass looks like the bastard love child of Jimmy Fallon and Joaquin Phoenix. I don’t know if that’s a high point or not, but I just really wanted to point that out.
+ The acting is over the top sometimes, but never really annoying. Blake Lively (Serena) consistently does a fanastic job.
+ Kelly Rutherford looks phenom. Definitely giving Kirsten Cohen a run for her money as hottest blond waif-ish milf of all time.
+ Great music so far. While I personally wouldn’t go out and buy cds of any of the artists on the show, the music selection is fantastic. I’d like to think that this is a carry-over from the OC. (The one exception to this are the Pierces… and I think that’s because I share a tenuous connection to the heart of Dixie with them…)
+ Chace Crawford is… uh… really pretty. I mean, that’s a good looking guy. (not gay) I also love the fact that his character is named Nate Archibald.
+ The show seems to have drifted away from the “high school” stuff in the past few episodes, but it looks like the next episode, School Lies, is going to focus on some of the elite prep school drama that I could only dream about. Woo hoo! Maybe we’ll get to see more of Nan Zhang.
At any rate, Gossip Girls airs on the CW on Wednesdays at 9. So far, it hasn’t been doing too well in the ratings, which probably means that it won’t last for too long unless it starts getting better numbers. I’d recommend everyone give it a shot.

If there has been one constant in my life, it is probably this: I really like soap opera-ish shows geared towards teenage girls. I don’t know what it is about them, but I can never get enough. From Passions to 90210 to the OC, I have loved them all and will continue to love such shows probably until the day I die. It’s my one weakness.
