I miss L. : (

After crappy recap episode 26, I’m glad that Death Note is back on track. I know 27 has been out for a couple of weeks now, but I’ve just been so absorbed by Sanjaya and the NBA playoffs I haven’t had time to watch any Death Note. (I also have 28 on deck as soon as I finish typing this up…)

Death Note resumes 5 years in the future. It’s great to see that nothing has really changed and everyone still looks the same… except for Light’s little sister Sayu. Hubba hubba. I shouldn’t say little anymore, because there’s nothing little about her. On the anime hotness scale, she ranks somewhere between Rei and the chick with the big ass boomerang on Samurai Showdown.

I guess in the future, 2012 in the show, early 90s style has come back into style (kind of like how 1980s stuff was in for the past few years) because Sayu is totally rocking the Kelly Kapowski look.

We also get introduced to two new characters, Melo and Near. They both come from the same background as L; orphans raised at some institute to be bad ass detectives.

Jealous of Near, Melo becomes an androgynous rogue with a pageboy haircut. He abandoned the law and appears to have sided with some ruffians. Every character on this show seems to have a quirk, and Melo’s, besides the ability to pass for an anorexic Prince Adam, is that he likes to eat rock hard Hershey chocolate bars.

Near is head of the SPK, the new task force charged with hunting down Kira. Near goes by “N.” (Get it? L, (M)elo, (N)ear?) He likes to play with his hair and displays symptoms of OCD. He also is an extremely shitty dart player.

It’ll be interesting to see how these two develop…

Oh, and I had to make a comment about the above screenshot. Actually no I don’t; it pretty much speaks for itself.
