Death Note: Silence E25

There are some serious spoilers in this post, so don’t read it if you haven’t seen it. |

I just finished watching episode 25 of Death Note and well… what the fuck?!
SPOILER ALERT!
SPOILER ALERT!
SPOILER ALERT!
SPOILER ALERT!

L fucking dies! I’m sure that there’s good reason for this, and the writer of the series thought this out, but to kill off one of the most important characters out of the blue… this seems to break every single rule of literature out there. Not that I didn’t want L to kick the bucket, the randomness of his death is what got to me. Where’s the buildup? Where’s the foreshadowing? Argh. Just when it seemed as if L was making some progress in the case he’s just wiped out. With L gone now, who’s going to take over the role as the main protagonist… er… antagonist…
Are we going to get another ace detective? Maybe Inspector Blancheflower or that one dude from Hotel Dusk? Who’s going to pick up the slack now that it seems Light is free to kill whoever the hell he wants?
So many questions. I guess one of the potential good things that came out of L dying is the fact that the show just got interesting again after going through some doldrums.

By the way, was anyone else disturbed by the homoerotic undertones of the above scene, or was that just me? I half expected some hot and heavy man on man yaoi action, but fortunately that wasn’t the case. If it did, I’d probably get angry at the show for catering to the yaoi crowd.
An aside, I really don’t understand how there appears to be yaoi for EVERYTHING. I’m serious. Think of anything you can, and I swear someone, somewhere, has written gay fanfiction about it. I put this theory to the test a couple of years ago and I stopped when I came across a story involving Zack, AC Slater, and Screech in a mantrain while Mr. Belding was videotaping.
Ugh.
But yeah, once again, my interests have been perked and I can’t wait until the next episode.
