Baby: Pop Bottles
While some of my favorites, Juvenile and Mannie Fresh to name a couple, have left Cash Money, I still think the label puts out some of the most “fun” music. Today I thought I’d do a quick review of the Birdman’s latest hit, Pop Bottles. I haven’t seen the video yet, but I do think the song is classic Baby. Let’s move on to the review…
0:05 - Oh fun. A basketball rap video! I can’t ever get enough of these. My favorite basketball rap video is probably No Limit’s Make ‘Em Say Uh! with that Trick Daddy song coming in a close second. Quad City DJ’s might be third, but that’s only because I like Space Jam.

0:07 - WTF? Is Jadakiss the coach?! I’m a fan of the guy, but it’s obvious he’s dumb as a bag of bricks. I think he tried to rhyme the word dreams with itself like 3 times in one song.

0:13 - Lovin’ the cheerleaders in the hotpants. Also, ignore the fact that the cheerleader’s face in the second picture looks like it’s melting. I screen-capped her mid-wink and it didn’t turn out right.

0:33 - Oh snap, Lil’ Wayne. This guy has come a LONG way since his early Cash Money days. I think that he’s one of the best mainstream rappers out there today. Serious. A lot of rappers can come up with clever little rhymes and wordplay, but Lil’ Wayne just takes it to a whole other level. His use of metaphors would put put Shakespeare to shame. Plus he has stage presence like no other.
Okay… it’s pretty obvious that I have a semi-man-crush on the guy, which is the perfect lead-in to my next topic:

I don’t know what I can add that hasn’t already be said. Who knows if Baby is a child molester or has been keeping a relationship with Lil’ Wayne on the down low for years? I do have to say that the likelihood of Baby and Lil’ Wayne making out in public like that is extremely low. Back to the video…
1:16 - Hmmm… not much is going on in this video. It seems as if the Cash Money crew won. I wonder who they beat; I couldn’t make out the other team at the beginning.

Going back to 0:20 - Oh. I think the jersey says New Orleans. Are the Cash Money guys playing the Hornets?! If so, I’m willing to bet that more people probably turned out for this video shoot than an actual Hornets game. Let’s skip back to the future.
1:25 - I didn’t realize the Baby and Weezy were such big Washington Nationals fans.

1:59 - I don’t know why, but I love this shot of the guys outside of the Superdome.
2:10 - There are a lot of hot hoodrats in this video.
2:30 - I didn’t realize Lil’ Wayne was such a Yankees fan.

2:41 - Oh wow. Birdman is the newest member of the Ballers’ Hall of Fame. Congrats Baby! You’ve earned it!
2:49 - For such a prestigious honor, Birdman sure did receive a shitty trophy. Come on Ballers’ Hall of Fame, I received a better trophy than that in 4th grade for perfect attendance.

3:12 - Yup.
Verdict: I wanted to like this video… I really did. But it just lacked a lot of the charm that was present in some of the older Cash Money videos. Where are the speedboats and yatchs? Where are the super exotic cars? Where is Mannie Fresh? (Actually I know where he’s at… I just wish he was still at Cash Money. I hope that he and Baby kiss and make up. Literally and figuratively.)

Ever since I heard Back Dat Ass Up way back in my college days, I have been a fan of Cash Money. Nobody does ostentatious rap as well as these guys. I remember I used to review videos from the Cash Money stable on a regular basis… they were just so funny/over the top/stunnin’.
